Can You Smoke Kratom? Should You?

Let me just say first and foremost, yes, yes you can smoke Kratom. In fact, you can smoke most things. I enjoy smoking herbs from Sacred Smoke Herbals. So yeah, weird, but totally doable. However, should you? No, you shouldn’t and I’ll go into the details in this blog post.

Taking your typical kratom dose in this way can have many long term side effects on your nervous system and lungs. Any amount of kratom can negatively affect your lungs when smoking it. Smoking ANYTHING can affect your lungs. It would be best if you stuck with the typical proven methods like toss and washings, tea drinking, and capsules.

Fact is, the effects of smoking it is short term compared to consuming it. For example, take marijuana. When you consume marijuana (like edibles), the effects are stronger and longer lasting vs when you smoke it. Same goes with kratom. Smoking it does enact the effects of the substance quicker than oral ingestion (toss & wash, caps, etc), which is one reason some might be drawn to that. However, some claim it doesn’t last as long smoking vs if you consume it.

Why I think Smoking Kratom is a Bad Idea

In Southeast Asia, where kratom is from, the dried leaves are chewed or brewed in a tea, as is tradition. It is rare when they smoke it, but yes, some do, but it is not common.

If you choose to smoke kratom, smoke anything for that matter, you open yourself up to a series of long term side effects. For starters, the lungs are not biologically designed for smoke inhalation. As CDC states, “Smoking can cause lung disease by damaging your airways and the small air sacs found in your lungs.” COPD is one of the most common lung diseases associated with smoking. In fact, smoking is the second leading cause of death in the world (First is Heart Disease, then cancer (lung cancer amongst it), and THEN Covid….). Basically over time, your air sacs can become obstructed from smoking kratom.

No, I cannot prove my opinion here with research and studies because barely any has been done about kratom to begin with, but I can compare it to cannabis and tobacco studies. So yes, it is possible that kratom may have similar effects when smoked.

Watch my YouTube video where I go into my thoughts on smoking kratom a little bit more. Either or, it’s YOUR choice.
