Getting Over a Nasty Cold w/ Kratom

It’s already bad enough dealing with chronic pain, but adding a nasty cold that has been plaguing the Pacific Northwest, now that’s just torture. Kratom is not the first thing I go to when I wake up feeling like poo. On the contrary. There is a full day’s schedule I kick into high gear the minute I realize I’ve been struck down with a cold.

Early morning:

I immediately go fill up a glass of water and drink it within ten minutes upon waking. Your body needs to rehydrate after not drinking during the night. Moreover, there are some serious things that might happen to you if you don’t get enough water. Learn those things HERE.

If I am stuffed up, I take my glass of water, grab my peppermint and echinacea oils and turn on the shower. I make sure the water is pretty hot. I don’t turn on the fan in the bathroom because I want a lot of steam. If you have a chair in the shower, the better! Otherwise, I sit down on the shower floor with my water and oils. I drop about 4 drops of each oil along the shower floor where I know the water won’t hit directly on it (you can even bring in a little bowl and add the oils in there). I sit there under the shower, while the steam builds up around me, drinking my water and relaxing while the oils and steam help my airways clear up. You can even add a little meditation for good measure.

After the shower, I get right back into my PJs (if I’m too sick to go to work), head back into the kitchen and gargle with salt water (if I’m dealing with a sore throat or an itchy throat). This does WONDERS to help with those symptoms.

I then RELAX. For some, this is hard–but so important. Your body needs rest. They’ve even proven that rest does more to help get over a cold than over the counter medicine or vitamin C. Once you show symptoms of a cold, vitamin C is not a miracle pill to take it away. At this point, your body has to go through the symptoms and you need to rest in order to get through it. Sure, vitamins are important to help prevent colds and other things, but once you have a cold, your body needs water and rest.

Afternoon & Evening:

Full of rest and water. If I get hungry, I eat pineapple. Wanna know why? Because it has been known to help with coughs/sore throats. In fact:

One 2010 study found that pineapple juice was part of an effective treatment for tuberculosis, thanks to its ability to soothe the throat and dissolve mucus. According to this study, a mixture of pineapple juice, honey, salt, and pepper reduced cough symptoms up to five times faster than over-the-counter (OTC) cough syrup.

Around the early afternoon is when I take my first dose of kratom. I do a regular toss and wash. Need to learn how? Watch an old video/tutorial I made below. I know…. I look so flattering, huh? #dontcare #confidence

In the evening is when I make a special warm kratom tea.

Kratom Tea for Colds

What You Need:

– Medium or large pot

– 4-6 cups water (or 1 liter)

Kratom leaf or powder in desired strain (for colds I usually take the Red Bali, or Red MD). I recommend Lifted Organics Lab (Use discount code KRATOMGIRL for 15% off)

– Honey (to taste)

– Chamomile tea bag

– Lemon juice/pineapple juice

– Mesh strainer or cheesecloth

How To Do It:

Put water in the pot and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce heat, add the desired amount of kratom leaves and simmer for 10-20 minutes. After simmering, pour contents through the strainer into a large container for serving or storage. If using powder, allow the plant matter to settle to the bottom. Quick tip to get the most bang for your buck – if using loose leaf, keep the leaves after straining. Depending on how long your first steeping was, they can stay good for two or three total batches.

Full a cup with your kratom tea, and add your chamomile tea bag. Cover it for 5 minutes. Add honey and juice and enjoy!

Some extra things I do is:

  1. Put a diffuser in my room when Im sleeping with those mentioned oils that I used in the shower. Also a humidifier!

  2. I cover the bottom of my feet with a thin layer of Vicks lotion, cover them with socks and go to bed!

  3. Gargle like 8 times a day with salt water! This was worth repeating 🙂

Now remember, rest! And feel better soon!
