Verses Judgemental Christians Use to Be Judgemental

I had the unfortunate misfortune to be raised amongst judgemental “Christians” who practiced and/or continue to practice the verses I will share in this article. I have been the victim amongst my own family since I was a child but definitely more so in my 20s when I had a nervous breakdown and did what they labeled “rebelling”. Funny thing though, throughout my childhood and teenage years, I was the most obedient and submissive child who never had that typical rebellious teenage lifestyle that so many have. I have siblings who did those typical things/sins/actions as teenagers that got treated better than I did….simply because I “chose” to have that stage played out in my twenties. Imagine.

Is that fair?

To everyone outside of my family who knows my story, it is in fact appalling and disgraceful, but to them and many so-called Christians, it is expected….and backed up with the following “supportive” Biblical verses I will share with you in this article.

Guaranteed this will be the first article that actually touches on these verses and the reasons these judgemental Christians justify to themselves to do what they do best. Why do the pastors not help explain all of the contradictions I plan on covering here? I’m not the one with a master’s degree in Biblical Studies, but my mother made sure that I knew my Bible cover to cover. Probably because they can’t explain it. The Bible DOES contradict itself and Cherry Picking Christians love that…and use that often.

1 Corinthians 5:1-13 ESV

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father’s wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you. For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord. …

Titus 3:10-11 ESV

As for a person who stirs up division (You know how many old ladies in my church did this very thing?), after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.

Matthew 18:15-17 ESV

“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault (Oh they LOVE this one), between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

2 Thessalonians 3:14-15 ESV / 22 helpful votes

If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed. Do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

Galatians 6:1 ESV / 21 helpful votes Helpful Not Helpful

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.

Romans 16:17 ESV

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.

2 Thessalonians 3:6 ESV

Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. (“Brother”? So that means he is a “Christian” technically? Ill save this discussion for another article 🙂

1 Corinthians 5:9-13 ESV

I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”

1 Corinthians 5:5 ESV

You are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

James 5:19-20 ESV SOOOOO many LOVE to volunteer for this one:

My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

Romans 16:17-18 ESV / 11 helpful votes

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

2 Timothy 2:24-26 ESV

And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

1 Corinthians 5:12 ESV

For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? (Ooo, where do I sign up!?)

But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard (man, that rules out a few of these judgemental family members LOL!), or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.

Titus 1:13 ESV

This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, (Ooo, don’t mind if I do!)

1 Corinthians 15:33 ESV

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

But then there are verses like these that God throws in there just for shits and giggles Im sure:

Galatians 6:1-2 ESV

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. (Sure, but make sure you) Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. (BUT also be sure to) Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Hebrews 10:25 ESV

Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Romans 14:1-23 ESV

As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? (Umm what?! Did you NOT just write all of the above verses, God, telling us to judge fellow Christians???!!!). It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

2 Timothy 3:2-5 ESV

For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. (Well, that just about includes ALL OF US, doesn’t it?).

This is why so many have a hard time coming to God…because in order to KNOW God and what He could possibly be meaning with all of these contradictions, you have to STUDY Him (aka, study the Bible). You have to use discernment, –but wait, you need the “gift” of discernment first, which takes “practice”.

Unfortunately, there are more Christians willing to be the ones that do the judging than accept any judgment themselves. The very people who “condemned” me when I sinned were people who 1) viewed porn (with their spouse). 2) Threatened to “drive off the road and kill {them} all while in Washington. 3) Cursed often. 4) Took drugs. 5) Had an affair. 6) Didn’t always attend church. 7) Did I say look at porn already? 🙂

Imagine if I treated them the way they treated me (and others)…then I SHOULD have condemned them to Satan too huh? I could list their names. I could have treated THEM the way they treated me…but I never did… I naturally always KNEW that NONE of us are perfect. That we ALL deserve hell… That regardless of the verses that “give us permission”, we honestly SHOULDNT ever judge another…because “all have fallen short of the glory of God” and we always will… This is why we need Jesus. This is why we ALL need GRACE and understanding… all things that they didn’t give me but yet expect for themselves.

Some might ask, why talk about this now?

Because their actions carried many consequences that I have to endure and relive and be hit with even to this day… Their actions are those for which I have to suffer for…. I don’t get the luxury of “forgiving and forgetting”. Don’t be mistaken… I’ve forgiven these people…but I have not forgotten because I don’t even get a CHANCE to forget… Their actions come back to haunt me frequently. The consequences of their choices are those I suffer in their place… if only they knew how rare it is to have someone forgive them for something that will never leave me…

Also, I am still being treated like shit by these so-called Christians. I’m married, go to church, and porn is not allowed in my home yet some said they refused to visit us because of our “choices” and lifestyle, things we watched… They forget I know of their sins…. I could have immediately turned the tables on them. I could have disowned them when I found out about their hidden sins. I could have judged them, or condemned them, but I never thought of that because Im not judgemental like them. So again, I still continue to be the victim of these hypocrites….

It honestly makes me sick to my stomach when I think about the hypocrisy of these people. It breaks my heart when I think about the victims, the baby Christians just learning, the people of color being victims of racism, and the heartless treatment of those who simply needed to feel heard and loved, or gently taught (by those who would also accept being taught as well).

Many of these family members were smart though. They would keep their addictions/sins hidden while they went to church, worshipping God. As for my sins…I’ve never hidden them. That’s what sets me apart from them. I never hid my sins, my doubt, my questions, my lifestyle. I was honest, I was human, knowing better than to EVER think myself better than another because I was full of my own sin. I allowed them to judge me and resisted condemning them and hanging their dirty laundry out to dry…

Their treatment of me caused me to question God…not run to Him. Thankfully, I managed to find myself out of many sins. They taught me the kind of Christian I should NEVER be. Some have passed away with condemnation of me on their dying lips… I stood amongst my family, being condemned as the “disappointment/bad girl” while I looked around me at those who got drunk daily, jacked off daily, and cursed daily (amongst many other things lol) – I shook my head in utter confusion as to the biased judgment of me…..and I took it and hold that pain till my own dying breath.

Some have apologized (and disappeared). Some continue to offend and judge without shame. Some would rather avoid me than be called out for what they did.

My friends… don’t EVER allow any “Christian” to treat you like this… Just like the times of Enoch are no more, so are the times of Acts… No one is in a position to cast judgment on you when there are pastors caught in affairs, child trafficking, and porn addictions. The days of ANYONE having the authority to cast judgment are over… These are the end times when it would be wiser to focus on being ready ourselves… Show love, kindness, and humility always.
